SSM Health Care’s net income improves 16% in 2014

St. Louis-based SSM Health Care reported net income of $147 million in 2014, up 16 percent from $126.6 million in 2013.

The nonprofit health system’s operating revenue increased to nearly $4.9 billion in 2014, up from about $3.8 billion the year prior. SSM reported operating expenses of $4.7 billion for fiscal year 2014, up from about $3.9 billion in 2013. The system reported a $74 million operating loss in 2013.

SSM Health Care posted a $56 million loss on interest rate swaps in 2014 and a loss in investing activities.

Acute inpatient admissions went up just 0.5 percent year over year, outpatient visits were up 5 percent and emergency room visits rose 5.6 percent.
