Select Specialty Hospital – South Dakota, which is part of Mechanicsburg, Pa.-based Select Specialty Hospital but located inside Sioux Falls-based Sanford USD Medical Center and Hospital, is closing, a spokesperson for Sioux Falls-based Sanford Health confirmed with Becker’s.
The closure date is dependent on when patients receiving care can be discharged safely, the spokesperson said.
Select Specialty Hospital, part of Select Medical, comprises nearly 100 healing and recovery hospitals across the U.S., according to its website.
“Sanford Health is thankful for our valued partnership with Select during the last 13 years,” Andy Munce, president and CEO of Sanford Sioux Falls, said in a statement shared with Becker’s. “Our shared priority is to ensure a seamless transition of care for their patients and families. As acute care needs in our community continue to grow, we value this opportunity to expand in-demand services for our patients. We are working on plans to repurpose the existing space at the Sanford USD Medical Center for inpatient growth and expansion.”
Sanford Health is also working with Select to support affected employees and encourages them to apply for potential positions at Sanford, the spokesperson said.
