South Carolina hospital cuts staff, expects to save $1.2M

The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, S.C., is laying off some administrative and educational staff in a cost-cutting move expected to generate $1.2 million in savings next year, according to the Times & Democrat

The layoffs could affect about 1 percent of the hospitals' workforce of 1,135, according to the report.

The job cuts are "to ensure that Regional Medical Center remains financially viable so that it can continue to provide services to the communities we serve," Carol Koenecke-Grant, Regional Medical Center vice president of strategy and marketing, told the Times & Democrat

The medical center is encouraging affected employees to apply for other open positions within the hospital.
