Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, is introducing federal legislation to address the issue, with support from Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., according to the report.
The senators argue older Americans face undue out-of-pocket charges for preventive colonoscopies when a polyp is detected and removed during screening, according to the report. They contend this should not occur because Medicare promotes full coverage for preventative colorectal cancer screenings, the report states.
