San Diego-based Scripps Health recorded an operating income of $31.8 million (2.5% operating margin) during the second quarter of 2026, up from an operating income of $18.1 million (1.5% margin) during the same period last year, according to its May 7 financial report.

Scripps Health reported total operating revenue of $1.3 billion for the three months ended March 31, up from $1.2 billion during the same period last year. Total patient service revenue was $1.1 billion, up from $1 billion. Scripps attributed the increase to growth in inpatient and outpatient volumes as well as increased clinic visits at Scripps Medical Foundation. Capitation premiums were $108.8 million, up from $104.7 million.

Total operating expenses were $1.3 billion in the second quarter of 2026, up from $1.2 billion during the same period last year. Scripps said the increase was driven by higher volumes as well as inflationary pressures on supplies and pharmaceuticals. Favorable care management helped reduce length of stay, which mitigated expense increases.

Wages and benefits totaled $533.8 million, up from $506.9 million. Supply expenses totaled $247.5 million, up from $214.9 million. Services totaled $410.1 million, up from $386.1 million.

Scripps had 408 days cash on hand as of March 31, down from 420 on Dec. 31.

The system reported a net income of $106.1 million in the second quarter of 2026, up from $76.5 million during the same period in 2025.
