The book — End Medical Debt: Curing America’s $1 Trillion Unpayable Healthcare Debt — by Jerry Ashton, Robert Goff and Craig Antico, takes “a realistic look at how and why we landed in today’s crisis of skyrocketing costs, shrinking insurance coverage, rising deductibles and mounting medical debt burdening our nation,” according to publisher Hoku House.

The three authors founded  RIP Medical Debt, a charity that buys medical debt for pennies on the dollar to forgive it. It is the organization comedian John Oliver partnered with when he bought then forgave nearly $15 million in medical debt in 2016.

The publisher said the book proposes such solutions as insurance reform and drug price controls, and presents the idea of a commission that would report to federal lawmakers annually on medical debt issues.
