Rhode Island hospitals employed 21,400 people with a payroll of $1.8 billion — that accounts for more than 6 percent of the state’s private sector employment, according to the report.
State hospitals also stimulated the local economy by generating nearly $2.5 billion in economic activity from purchasing local goods and services, such as medical supplies, electricity for buildings and food for patients.
