The BPCI initiative includes four models, which differ based on types of healthcare providers involved and the services in the bundle. CMS announced more than 500 organizations as initial BPCI initiative participants in January, but just 32 of them were participating in Model 1.

Model 1 defines an episode of care as the inpatient stay at an acute-care hospital. Organizations interested in participating need to submit a Model 1 Open Period Information Intake form to CMS by July 31.
