The average revenue and expenses per full time physician increased 11.4% year over year, according to Strata’s “Monthly Healthcare Industry Financial Benchmarks.” Average physician productivity also increased in the second quarter.
Strata released the report in late July, examining data from 152,000 physicians in June. The report found expenses per physician growth varied across the U.S., with the Northeast reporting the largest second quarter increase over 2024:
- Northeast: 12.2%
- Midwest: 11.4%
- West: 11%
- South: 8.2%
The median net patient service revenue per full time physician hit $826,575 while average total expenses per physician was nearly $1.2 million in the second quarter.
Average relative value units per physician increased nearly 4% in the second quarter compared to the same period last year, hitting 6,711.53, and organizations reported a 1.2% increase in support staff per full time physician from the first quarter of the year. The median full time support staff per 10,000 wRVUs hit 3.60 for the quarter.
