Ohio Gov. John Kasich vetoed a bill on Friday that would have halted Medicaid expansion in the state, according to The Enquirer.

The bill proposed freezing Medicaid expansion in Ohio beginning July 1, 2018, with the goal of cutting costs by ending new enrollment in the program.

While the governor vetoed the bill, enabling Medicaid expansion to continue, Republican legislators believe they have the votes to override Mr. Kasich’s decision.

The Ohio House of Representatives will meet Thursday to possibly discuss an override vote. If an override occurs, any changes to Medicaid would need the Trump administration’s approval.
