Here are four things to know.
1. Ohio is one of 31 states that expanded Medicaid under the ACA.
2. Republican lawmakers in the state have proposed freezing Medicaid expansion beginning July 1, 2018. Under the Medicaid expansion freeze, lower-income Ohioans who unenrolled in coverage for whatever reason could not re-enroll, according to the report. The ultimate goal is to prevent new Medicaid expansion enrollees amid growing costs and political uncertainty.
3. The most recent proposal from Ohio GOP lawmakers includes an exception for drug-addicted or mentally ill individuals. These people would not be subject to the July 1, 2018, freeze and would be able to enroll.
4. Now Mr. Kasich, who has supported Medicaid expansion in Ohio, could be tasked with whether to veto Republicans’ Medicaid expansion freeze.
