Officials estimate nursing facilities will receive an increase in funds of approximately $920 million, a 2.4 percent increase from payments in FY 2016.

Officials also made changes to the Improving Medicare Post-Acute Care Transformation Act of 2014 and issued an addendum to the Social Security Act that requires skilled nursing facilities to report data on quality measures, including Medicare spending per beneficiary, discharges to the community and potentially preventable 30-day post-discharge readmission rates, according to the fact sheet.

Nursing facilities will also need to report statistics on the number of drug regimen reviews they conduct and any issues that may arise beginning FY 2020, according to the fact sheet.

Under the rule, facilities that don’t submit the required data will be subject to a 2 percent pay cut in Medicare payment reductions beginning in FY 2018.
