Novant Health posts 3% operating margin in Q1

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health recorded an operating income of $91.3 million (3% operating margin) during the first quarter of 2026, up from $78 million (2.9% margin) during the same period last year, according to its May 29 financial report. 

Three things to know: 

1. Novant reported total operating revenue of $3.1 billion for the three months ended March 31, up from $2.7 billion during the same period last year. Net patient service revenue was $2.6 billion, up from $2.3 billion. The system attributed the increase to growth in patient volumes and pharmacy revenue, as well as increases in revenue accrued for North Carolina’s Healthcare Access and Stabilization Program.

2. Total operating expenses were $3 billion in Q1 2026, up from $2.6 billion during the same period last year. Salaries and employee benefits totaled $1.5 billion, up from $1.3 billion, which was attributed to merit and market-based pay adjustments and acquisitions. Supplies and other expenses totaled $1.3 billion, up from $1.2 billion. 

3. Novant reported a net income of $107.8 million in Q1, down from $114.7 million during the same quarter last year.
