North Philadelphia Health System emerges from bankruptcy

North Philadelphia Health System emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy roughly two years after entering the bankruptcy process, according to The Philadelphia Tribune.

Four things to know:

1. NPHS filed for bankruptcy protection in December 2016 after closing St. Joseph's Hospital in Philadelphia about eight months earlier. NPHS sold St. Joseph's in 2017.

2. NPHS currently operates two facilities in Philadelphia: Girard Medical Center, a psychiatric hospital, and Goldman Clinic, a substance abuse treatment center.

3. "When the bankruptcy was declared and we were closing down, a lot of people left to find other jobs, and so part of the stabilization is really retaining the people that we have and recruiting other people," NPHS President and CEO Gerri H. Walker told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

4. The health system is currently seeking to fill roughly 40 nursing, mental health and addiction recovery positions.
