New Law Allows Local Taxes to Garner Federal Match for Keokuk Area Hospital in Iowa

Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad has signed a bill into law which will allow city and county government tax dollars to be used to draw federal matching funds for struggling Keokuk (Iowa) Area Hospital, according to a report by The Hawk Eye.

The bill, which was introduced by state Rep. Jerry Kearns (D-Keokuk), will allow local tax proceeds to be used to draw additional federal matching funds, pending CMS approval. Keokuk’s city council has already agreed to contribute $100,000, according to the report.

The bill is scheduled to go into effect on July 1.
