Mount Sinai in Miami Sees Profit Drop, Inpatient Admissions Rise in 3Q

Mount Sinai Medical Center, a 955-bed teaching hospital based in Miami Beach, Fla., recorded profit of $5.5 million in the third quarter of 2011, down from the $8.5 million in profit it earned in the same quarter last year, according to a South Florida Business Journal report.

A $2.5 million transfer from its fundraising foundation did not reoccur this year, impacting its third quarter profit, according to the report.

Mount Sinai recorded total revenue of $133.3 million in the third quarter, up 1.2 percent from its $131.7 million in revenue from the third quarter in 2010.

Inpatient admissions also increased 1.2 percent from the same quarter last year, and its inpatient surgeries increased 5.2 percent on a year-over-year basis, according to the report.
