Missouri hospital to roll out new pricing strategy for uninsured

Nevada (Mo.) Regional Medical Center’s financial committee has confirmed discounted payment models for uninsured patients are in the works, according to a Nevada Daily Mail report.

The model would lay out three discounted prices for insured patients according to the patient’s financial responsibility, NRMC CEO Kevin Leeper told the Nevada Daily Mail.

Mr. Leeper hopes to release online the agreed price details for uninsured patients by the end of the week.

NRMC’s current prices are competitive with surrounding hospitals, however financial committee members agree the proposed pricing discounts may generate more revenue long term.

“Our prices are not out of whack with Joplin, or Kansas City or Fort Scott, they’re just too high,” Mr. Leeper told Nevada Daily Mail. Financial board secretary Larry Bledsoe believes an uninsured patient discount might encourage people to choose NRMC over other area hospitals.

NRMC plans to consult hospital lawyers about potential conflicts with Medicare, Medicaid and other

insurers before officially committing to the new pricing model.
