The 12-bed hospital will grow to have 29 emergency room beds, private inpatient rooms that can house patients and families, and a larger 12-bed intensive care unit. The expansion is expected to cost $100 million, with more than 60 percent of the funding coming from the USDA.
Citizens Memorial also received a low-interest loan that it will pay back over 35 years. The expansion is expected to take around three years to complete.
