The 2016 Cost & Utilization Report analyzes and compares data on medical group performance in Total Cost of Care, or all costs associated with treating patients with commercial insurance. The results are based on 2015 health insurance claims of more than 1.5 million commercially-insured patients receiving care at more than 257 medical groups.
“The continued rise of healthcare costs and the burden this places on families, businesses and the community makes it critical for medical groups and the community to work together,” Jim Chase, MNCM president, said in a prepared statement. “This is our endeavor in this new report.”
Here are three quick highlights from the report:
1. The price for a strep test provided at different medical groups ranges from $8 to $101.
2. The Total Cost of Care ranges from $365 to $914 per month on a risk-adjusted basis.
3. Emergency department use ranges from 37 percent less than expected to 104 percent more than expected when accounting for patient illness.
