MedStar Mobile Healthcare filed a WARN notice for 589 employees, effective July 1, amid a change of emergency medical services from the EMS and mobile health organization to the city of Fort Worth, Texas.
“While a majority of MedStar employees are being offered positions with the city of Fort Worth, there are a few employees who did not receive offer letters,” a spokesperson for MedStar’s human resources department said in an April 21 statement shared with Becker’s. “We are encouraging these employees to review the city of Fort Worth job postings and if qualified, [provide] an opportunity to interview for a city position. We are committed to ensuring this process is as smooth and efficient as possible for everyone involved.”
In May 2024, Fort Worth’s city council approved recommendations to create an EMS system within the city’s fire department to improve response times and enhance patient care and financial stability, according to the city’s website.
The EMS advisory board and medical control board will be created to support the transition from MedStar to the city.
“MedStar is dissolving and the city of Fort Worth will be responsible via the Fort Worth Fire Department to provide emergency ambulance services to multiple cities in Tarrant County,” the city’s website said. “The agreement outlined will create a civil service structure for EMS operational positions, including telecommunicators.”
