Manatee Memorial Hospital to operate at 'risk level' if county doesn't increase indigent care funds

Bradenton, Fla.-based Manatee Memorial Hospital may be forced to function at a "risk level" in 2017 if it doesn't receive increased funds from Manatee County, Bradenton Herald reports.

The hospital is seeking greater funds to offset the cost of providing care to uninsured residents in Manatee. MHS CEO Kevin DiLallo is calling for a $500,000 increase to the $3.2 million the county approved Tuesday for the hospital.

Mr. DiLallo said $3 million doesn't cover "even half" of MHS's annual costs associated with serving uninsured patients. Three years ago, the county granted MHS $6.9 million for indigent care. Mr. DiLallo said that still didn't cover all of the hospital's costs, according to the report.

County officials decided to revisit the issue at a later date, the report states.
