Earlier this month, Hawaii Medical Center announced in bankruptcy court it could not reach a sale price for its two hospitals with Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services. The failed sale forced the closure of two HMC hospitals in Honolulu and Ewa Beach.
Of the 500 layoffs, 400 affected employees were nurses. As a result, local nursing experts expect graduating nursing students may find it harder to find local jobs their first year out of school, according to the report.
