Louisiana hospitals contribute more than $29.9B to state economy

Hospitals in Louisiana have a major impact on the state financially, accounting for $29.9 billion each year in economic activity and directly employing upwards of 98,000 people, according to a report from the Louisiana Hospital Association.

In 2012 and 2013, the state’s 207 hospitals averaged $870 million per year in total capital spending, according to the report. That spending created and supported nearly 15,000 jobs, $583 million in personal earnings and $78 million in state and local tax collections.

Additionally, the hospitals’ direct expenditures total approximately $14.1 billion annually. That spending creates and supports 294,548 jobs, nearly $12 billion per year in personal earnings and an estimated $1.6 billion in state and local tax collections.
