Denver Health provides care for nearly 30 percent of the city’s population every year and is the city’s primary safety-net hospital. Last year, the system provided $120 million in uncompensated care, up from $60 million in 2020, according to a May 30 news release from the health systems. At the same time, costs have risen significantly.
Kaiser is providing Denver Health with a $5 million grant to support “vital healthcare services,” including primary and specialty care to patients who cannot pay, and has committed another $5 million as a matching donation to incentivize local organizations and community members to support the health system.
Kaiser Permanente is the largest nonprofit health plan in Colorado.
