Insight signs agreement to operate shuttered Iowa hospital

Flint, Mich.-based Insight has signed a letter of intent to take over the shuttered Keokuk Area Hospital in Iowa, according to a Jan. 19 report from NBC affiliate WGEM.

The hospital, operated by Quincy, Ill.-based Blessing Health System, ended inpatient services in the fall, the report said, creating a void in local patient care.

Local authorities worked closely with the two health systems to make the deal happen but were not involved in the final transaction, Keokuk Mayor Kathie Mahoney said.

"The announcement from Insight means that this void will be closed, and the people of Keokuk can rest a little easier," Ms. Mahoney said. "We welcome Insight and look forward to working with them.”

Insight was founded in 2008 to offer clinical services in neurosurgery in Flint but has since grown to also operate hospitals in Chicago and Warren, Mich., employing more than 300 people.
