Endeavor Health, a nine-hospital system headquartered in Evanston, Ill., is eliminating a $5 per hour pay differential for nurses in its intensive care units and emergency departments, at its NorthShore hospitals, a spokesperson for the health system confirmed to Becker’s.

The pay differential was introduced at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic to address staffing challenges and support frontline workers.

Endeavor said in a statement that the pay differential was always intended to be temporary.

“As Endeavor Health came together as a system, we respected historic pay practices as we designed a consistent compensation structure for our health system. With the pandemic behind us and the recent roll-out of an aligned Endeavor Health compensation structure that is designed to invest in and support our nurses for the long-term, we have made the decision to phase out this pandemic era differential for NorthShore,” the health system said in a statement shared with Becker’s. “Nurse leaders met in person with the teams impacted by this change to ensure transparent communication and clarity around this decision. To assist with the transition, we will pay 50 percent of this differential to eligible nurses over the next twelve months, beginning in June.”
