Leaders of OSF and Rockford Health announced acquisition plans in February 2011. In November 2011, the Federal Trade Commission challenged the acquisition with a complaint that it would reduce competition among hospitals and primary care physicians in the Rockford area.
The FTC requested a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to delay deal.
Judge Frederick Kapala recently heard arguments over the restraining order and preliminary injunction in a three-day hearing, which began Feb. 1, 2012. Judge Kapala’s ruling is expected within the next week.
According to the report, the FTC requested a delay to prevent OSF and Rockford Health from moving forward before a D.C. judge could rule on whether the deal is anticompetitive.
