CDPHP has tested this new compensation model for several years at three physician practices that serve a combined 13,000 patients, according to the report. The health insurer said physicians have earned far more than their $150,000 annual average, the insurer has paid less in claims, and patients displayed better overall health outcomes.
Hospital admissions also declined 15 percent, while visits to the emergency department went down 9 percent, according to CDPHP’s data.
