Pittsburgh-based Highmark Health reported $8.3 billion in revenue and $216 million in operating income for the first quarter, according to earnings results posted May 28.
The organization posted $183 million in net income for the quarter and maintained $11.4 billion in cash and investments, with net assets of $9.9 billion as of March 31.
Health plans
Highmark Health Plans reported $6.3 billion in operating revenue and $249 million in operating income for Q1, a $258 million improvement over the same period in 2025. The division’s recovery was attributed to pricing and product strategy adjustments alongside the organization’s integrated payer-provider structure.
Allegheny Health Network
Allegheny Health Network posted $1.5 billion in revenue and $9 million in operating income for the quarter, marking its fifth consecutive quarter of positive operating income. Net EBITDA was $64 million, a 13% decrease year over year, which the system attributed to net unrealized investment losses.
Volume trends were mixed. Inpatient discharges and observations fell 3% year over year, as did emergency room visits. Outpatient registrations and physician visits each increased 3%. AHN cited weather challenges and a milder-than-expected respiratory season as contributing to softer inpatient and ER volumes early in the quarter.
