The project is expected to be completed by June 2017. It will include 15 new rooms and 46 renovated rooms, for a total number of 117 adult ICU beds in the hospital.
“As a tertiary referral center, Greenville Memorial provides highly specialized care to patients who suffer from a serious injury or illness,” said Paul Johnson, president of the Greenville Memorial Medical Campus. “The newly remodeled ICU will allow us to continue delivering the high quality care we’re known for but in a more spacious and high-tech environment.”
Included in the plan are various upgrades to improve the patient experience and outcomes, such as patient lifts, a soothing color scheme to reduce seizures in patients with head injuries and more natural light.
The ICU contains a medical/surgical unit as well as neurological and trauma units. Greenville Memorial Hospital has seen trauma cases increase by 20 percent over the last five years, according to the report.
