State Democrats disapproved of the deep cuts to MaineCare, the state Medicaid program, due to the high demand for those services, according to the report. Residents who would lose coverage include 19,000 low-income adults and 21,000 parents of children enrolled in MaineCare.
Gov. LePage said the cuts would save Maine $66 million over the next 18 months. MaineCare covers more than 360,000 residents and costs roughly $2.5 billion per year.
