Philanthropists Helen and Jacob Shaham have donated $30 million to Miami-based Florida International University and its Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.
The gift will support the academic medical center under construction on FIU’s main campus in Miami in partnership with Coral Gables, Fla.-based Baptist Health South Florida, according to an April 7 news release. In recognition of the gift, the seven-story facility will be named the Helen and Jacob Shaham Academic Medical Center.
The facility is slated to open in 2028 and has received more than $158 million in state funding to date. It will offer academic learning spaces and outpatient multispecialty services, including same-day surgery and diagnostic imaging, according to the release. Baptist Health South Florida will manage the center’s operations.
