Insurers are calling for rules that would require air ambulance providers to solve payment variances with the insurer rather than the patient. However, air ambulance providers argue that insurers propose to pay considerably less than they need to continue services, according to the report.
Ambulances were omitted from a Florida law passed in 2016 that limited consumer charges from out-of-network providers in emergency situations.
The emergency medical transportation working group is now looking for solutions to the complex issue.
