Fitch upgrades Peterson Health’s credit rating

Kerrville, Texas-based Peterson Health’s credit rating was upgraded to “A+” from “A” by Fitch.

The upgrade reflects the health system’s improved operating performance, which has continued through the first nine months of fiscal 2026 (ended March 31), exceeding management’s budget expectations, Fitch said in its May 7 report.

The health system has a limited service area and population base and relies on a small number of physicians/advanced practitioners, but Fitch said Peterson’s market share, strong operating and balance sheet metrics and no plans for new debt support the upgrade.

“Fitch expects operating performance to be sustained at the improved level, even with the potential for reductions in supplemental funding, given its limited Medicaid exposure, dominant market position, volume growth and operating initiatives,” the agency said in the report.

Peterson Health has a stable outlook at its new rating.
