7 Hospitals Receive Credit Downgrades in Past Month

Seven hospitals and health systems have received credit downgrades in the past 30 days, according to a report by HFA Partners.

The hospitals receiving the credit downgrades include:

•    Elkhart (Ind.) General Hospital — from A1 to A2 (Moody’s)
•    Harris County Hospital District (Houston) — from A1 to A2 (Moody’s)
•    Hospital Sisters Services (Springfield, Ill.) — from Aa3 to A1 (Moody’s)
•    Kennedy Health System (Voorhees, N.J.) — from A2 to A3 (Moody’s)
•    Parrish Medical Center (Titusville, Fla.) — from A+ to A- (Fitch)
•    Peterson Regional Medical Center (Kerrville, Texas) — from BBB to BBB- (Fitch)
•    West Penn Allegheny Health System (Pittsburgh) — from B2 to Caa1 (Moody’s)

In the same month-long span, two hospitals received credit upgrades from Moody’s. St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, had its bond rating go to Baa2 from Baa3, and Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy, Ohio, had its bond rating go to A2 from A3.
