Fitch assigns ‘BBB+’ issuer rating to NYU Winthrop Hospital

Fitch Ratings assigned its “BBB+” issuer default rating to Mineola, N.Y.-based NYU Winthrop Hospital. In addition, the credit rating agency affirmed its “BBB+” rating on the hospital’s series 2012 revenue bonds, affecting $130.2 million of debt.

The assignment and affirmation are a result of several factors, including the hospital’s leading market share, demographically strong service area and improving operating performance. Fitch acknowledged the health system’s ongoing EHR overhaul, which poses credit risks and weakened the health system’s operations in 2018 because of a one-time implementation cost.

The outlook is stable.
