Connecticut hospitals saw $333.6M gain in operating revenue in FY 2013

A report from the Department of Public Health, Office of Health Care Access shows Connecticut hospitals saw a $333.6 million gain in operating revenue in fiscal year 2013, a 35 percent decrease from the previous year’s gain.

The OHCA report contains information on Connecticut’s acute-care hospitals. It includes an executive summary of fiscal year 2013 hospital financial performance, statewide hospital health system and statewide hospital profiles, and profiles on individual hospitals.

The intent is “to provide information that will enhance knowledge of the financial status of Connecticut’s hospitals,” according to the report, which looked at 29 acute-care hospitals.

Here are some of the other key findings and trends from the report:

1. Connecticut hospitals earned $263.2 million in income from non-operating sources of revenue in fiscal year 2013. That’s a 35 percent increase from the previous year.

2. In fiscal year 2013, 83 percent of hospitals (24 of 29) saw a positive total margin.

3. In fiscal year 2012, the average statewide total margin was 6.63 percent, but the average fell to 5.64 percent in fiscal year 2013.
