Medicare RACs Have Collected Estimated $575M in Overpayments Since Oct. 2009

Recovery audit contractors have brought in an estimated $575.2 million in Medicare overpayments since Oct. 2009, and each quarter of FY 2011 has resulted in higher overpayments collected, according to a CMS report.

CMS has also paid healthcare providers $109.6 million in Medicare underpayments since Oct. 2009.

FY 2011 Q1 — $13.1 million
FY 2011 Q2 — $23.7 million
FY 2011 Q3 — $55.9 million
Total — $109.6 million

FY 2011 Q1 — $94.3 million
FY 2011 Q2 — $208.9 million
FY 2011 Q3 — $289.3 million
Total — $684.8 million
