“Access to honest and actual prices is fundamental to ensuring patient choice and ultimately reducing medical care costs,” the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons said in comments submitted to federal officials in support of the rule that requires hospitals to disclose negotiated rates with insurers beginning in 2021.
The association urged CMS to implement the rule and to “not weaken the proposal to benefit special interests at the expense of patients.”
The association said it also plans to submit comments in support of a newly announced proposed rule that would require insurance companies to share price and cost-sharing information with members up front.
