Cleveland considering $190M medical debt relief proposal

The Cleveland City Council has introduced an ordinance that, if passed, could eliminate an estimated $190 million for 48,000 city residents, NBC affiliate WKYC reported Jan. 23.

Under the proposal, the city would use $1.9 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding in a partnership with RIP Medical Debt. 

Also in Ohio, the city of Toledo — along with Lucas County — approved a $240 million debt relief plan, and the city of Columbus is considering a $200 million relief plan.
