Buffalo, N.Y.-based Catholic Health plans to eliminate 40 positions systemwide amid staffing changes to adapt to evolving patient needs and ensure the system’s long-term sustainability.
The affected positions include union and non-union employees at Catholic Health’s Administrative & Regional Training Center in Buffalo, Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, N.Y., Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo and the St. Joseph Campus in Cheektowaga, N.Y., according to a Sept. 22 news release shared with Becker’s.
Catholic Health’s human resources team is working with affected employees to find and review potential placement within Catholic Health’s open vacancies.
Mercy Hospital said it is realigning 34 employee positions as emergency department volumes surge. Affected employees will have the opportunity to transition into a vacancy identified at the hospital. All affected employees were informed Sept. 22 and were provided with support and resources to help with the transition.

Catholic Health comprises six hospitals, more than 9,700 employees and nearly 1,500 physician partners. It has subacute and long-term care facilities, ambulatory care centers, physician practices and home care agencies, the release said.
