Banner Payson, 3 other rural hospitals to share $30K for outreach programs

Four hospitals will receive outreach grants totaling $30,000 from healthcare services provider MultiPlan.

The $30,000 will be divided among Banner Payson (Ariz.) Medical Center, Conway (S.C.) Hospital, Mauston, Wis.-based Mile Bluff Medical Center, and Groesbeck, Texas-based Limestone Medical Center. Each recipient submitted a proposal for addressing community healthcare needs.

Here is how each facility will use the money, according to MultiPlan:

  • Banner Payson will obtain wound care certification for two nurses, allowing them to treat wounds such as burns and pressure ulcers.
  • Conway Hospital will invest in mammography services, specifically a program to bring 3-D mammography imaging to women in their community.
  • Limestone Medical Center will use the money to raise  community awareness about resources at its congestive heart failure clinic and to buy tools patients can use at home.
  • Mile Bluff Medical Center will put grant money toward education programs in the community focused on dementia diseases, such as Alzheimer's. The hospital and other local organizations also are trying to establish a memory café that will offer programs, activities and support for people with dementia diseases and their caregivers.
