Bankrupt Pa. hospital on tenterhooks, awaits state payments

Renovo, Pa.-based Bucktail Medical Center filed for bankruptcy last October. By May, the hospital may have to shutter its doors or limit services if the state does not pay $390,000 in annual medical assistance funds, reports WBRE.

The hospital said it will consider cutting emergency services should the necessary money not materialize. Bucktail’s emergency room treats an average of 2,500 patients annually.

The nearest hospital is 26 miles in Lock Haven, according to the article.

“We are very important, we may be small but we’re very powerful and we are a small hospital with a big heart,” Bucktail President Harriet Nuss told WBRE. “Our governor has broken our hearts.”

Hospital administrators have implored those who use the facility to contact their state representative about the hospital’s fate.
