Kelly Downard, Republican councilman for the 16th district of Louisville Metro, proposed the changes to the budget.
Under Mr. Downard’s amendment, $2 million was transferred out of U of L Hospital’s indigent care fund and $800,000 was taken out of city funds for salt for the roads. The majority of the funds, $2.55 million, will go toward road paving projects, and the remainder will be used for a Louisville Zoo project, according to the report.
U of L Hospital’s indigent care fund was allocated $5 million this fiscal year, and about $3.6 million remained in the fund before the budget changes were made.
