Average reimbursement rate for medium hospitals, by region

Medium hospitals — those with 100 to 250 beds — in the Northern Plains are the nation’s medium hospitals with the highest average reimbursement rate, according to RelayHealth Financial’s Revenue Cycle Index.

For the index, reimbursement rate is defined as the percent of total charges that can be collected, excluding self-pay patients. The data used for the comparison is based on internal McKesson data.

Here are the average reimbursement rates for medium hospitals, organized by geographic region, according to the Revenue Cycle Index.  

  • Northern Plains — 30.89 percent
  • Midwest — 30.24 percent
  • Northeast — 29.41 percent
  • Pacific — 28.01 percent
  • Mountain — 26 percent
  • South Central — 25.52 percent
  • Southern Plains — 24.11 percent
  • Southeast — 23.22 percent
