First Surgical is the 18th hospital that CMS has fined for alleged price transparency violations and the fifth from Texas. To date, no other state has more than two hospitals that have been fined for alleged violations.
CMS fined three hospitals for price transparency violations in 2024, including two from Texas. In late December, the agency fined Baytown Medical Center $50,511 and West Chase Houston Hospital $44,251. Like First Surgical, those hospitals also have fewer than 30 beds. Both are also appealing their fines.
