Alternative payment models improve health inequities, HHS-backed network says

Alternative payment models have potential to address the medical and social factors contributing to the country’s health inequity, according to the health equity advisory team for HHS’ Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network.

The Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network launched the health equity advisory team June 11 to inform its policies by prioritizing opportunities for health equity improvement through alternative payment models.

“Alternative payment models offer a powerful level to create a shift to whole-person care and improved outcomes by creating flexibility in reimbursement that supports addressing medical and social factors,” Karen Dale, co-chair of the health equity advisory team, said in a news release.
