3 things to know about the uncertain future of Medicaid expansion

With an uncertain future for the ACA, Medicaid expansion in Indiana and other states could be in jeopardy, according to a Kaiser Health News report.

Here are three things to know.

1. Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R), who expanded Medicaid in his state under the ACA, is now Vice President-elect under President-elect Donald Trump. As Vice President-elect, he supports repealing and replacing the health law.

2. If the ACA is repealed and replaced, millions of low-income Americans who gained insurance coverage under the health law are at risk of losing that coverage, according to the report. Kaiser Health News reports that approximately 12 million people have gained insurance coverage in 31 states and Washington, D.C., as a result of Medicaid expansion.

3. At present, Mr. Trump has not detailed what a replacement would look like, though he has said he supports Medicaid block grants to states, according to the report.
