26 Boone Hospital Center employees affected by outsourcing transcription services

St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare's decision to outsource medical transcription services to a vendor in Wisconsin will affect 26 employees at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Mo., according to a Columbia Daily Tribune report.

Here are four things to know about the issue.

1. Ben Cornelius, spokesman for Boone Hospital and BJC, told the Columbia Daily Tribune the hospital started moving its medical transcription services to Madison, Wis.-based Amphion in January.

2. The phased-in transition is slated to be complete in August, eliminating 26 medical transcriptionist jobs from Boone Hospital's payroll, according to the report.

3. Full-time and part-time medical transcription staff will be able to transition to Amphion and receive a severance package from BJC, Mr. Cornelius said, according to the report. He added that medical transcription staff members who want to stay with BJC will receive assistance in identifying other employment opportunities.

4. The switch to Amphion was attributed, in part, to the transition to ICD-10. Previously, Mr. Cornelius told the Columbua Daily Tribune, the service was provided through various sources, including employed staff, contractors and support from outside vendors.
