The $185 million Mission Hospital Neuroscience and Spine Institute will treat a variety conditions such as Alzheimer’s, behavioral disorders, blunt-force trauma, brain tumors, chronic pain, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and strokes.
The wing will include three operating rooms, eight private recovery rooms, two levels of intensive care, a $7 million linear accelerator for radiation delivery, a $15 million surgical brain and spine navigation device and an O-arm gadget for spinal operations.
The wing’s three operating rooms will allow physicians to project images of patients’ brains on the walls and ceiling and transmit those images in real time to other physicians who can offer medical advice. The images could also be used for educational purposes by being transferred to off-site conferences, according to the report.
